These are the first sentences of an article by Ivana Keser Battista, published in the newspaper “Local – Global”, which is part of her project entitled “Exhibition of Local Newspapers” with which she participated in the exhibition “Manifesta I”, in Rotterdam in 1996. Her artistic work resides in the newspapers that she writes, illustrates and publishes independently, and in which she brings news from her private life, comments, short articles and her own photographs into the public domain. In her work, the artist questions the boundaries of boredom and pleasure, as well as the boundaries between private and public.

Have you heard of Superman? And Spiderman? Have you ever noticed that they are missing something? They are missing a tie. That round neckline gives them away.
They are all passers-by in the world of rise and success. I am alone among five billion people, but I am aware of my strength. I was a skeptic, now I am a believer. I was a coward, now I am a hero. I am a visionary, I think in pictures and pictures impress me. Wherever I look, I see myself. What can I tell you, the secret is in the knot around my neck. As soon as I tie a tie, I become unique and irreplaceable.
I go out in front of a crowd so inspired that the audience immediately warms up to my truth, because I approach them with ease and build bridges between the past and the future. Speakers like me are hard to find. And do you know what gives me strength – a tie. A tie should not be tighter or tighter than necessary. It should be worn on the outside, and it will bring you luck when it touches you, or even better, tied by a woman’s hand.
When choosing, it is important to pay attention to the pattern. It will reveal your nature and often reveal your plans and strategies. Smaller patterns contribute to concentration, while larger ones indicate that the owner has a restless spirit. Slanted lines radiate luxury and breadth of vision.
Avoid elements of edible flora and fauna. This will lead people to banquets, cocktails and dinners, so that the reason you came somewhere with such a tie will fade into the background. Especially avoid illustrative, nostalgic details, because they can point to your difficult childhood. Monochrome, black or dull gray ties are found on the necks of suspicious types, and the symbolism of the silhouettes of naked figures is not even worth mentioning.
Never forget that a tie is the only thing that separates you from the audience. Whenever I am insecure, I remember that I can always hide behind a tie, because I almost consider it a part of my body. Just in case, it is good to always have a spare one under your shirt in case your outer one gets lost.
If you are single, and if no one cares about you, and you are forgetful, then a tattoo is the best solution.
That way, you will sleep peacefully day and night like a decent citizen. Wear it with dignity and always remember that a tie is only for civilized people. Many will tie it without having the right to do so. It is also a sign of masculinity, your ticket to society. So get up right away, go to your closet and judge whether you are ready for a new day.
