Museum of cravat in Zagreb

Academia Cravatica initiated another brand new initiative – founding Museum of Cravat, in Zagreb naturally, the world´s metropolis of cravat. Expert Council of the Museum is established with its members as following: Tomislav Šola (Ph.D.), professor of Study of Museology at Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, Margarita Sveštarov Šimat, museum counsellor at Cabinet of Graphics at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Nikola Albaneže, chief curator of the Museum of Cravat in the process of foundation and Marijan Bušić (BA) progenitor of establishment of the Museum and head of the Academia Cravatica.

Idea of founding the Museum of Cravat was even more encouraged by successful development of project – exhibition of art works inspired by cravat. Such first exhibition of author works inspired by cravat was installed in Pula in 2003 as ancillary project of artistic installation Cravat Around Arena, by Marijan Bušić. Afterwards, the exhibition, named Challenge of Cravat, in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integrations of the Republic of Croatia set out into the world. Firstly, in was installed in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mostar and Sarajevo), secondly in Egypt (Cairo and Alexandria), then in South Africa (Pretoria, Johannesburg), Poland (Krakow and Gdansk), Austria (Vienna) and Bulgaria (Sofia and Ruse). Next year the Exhibition will be placed in some countries in Western Europe. The exhibition opus consists of approximately 120 artistic achievements with cravat as its central theme, at the moment, and authors of fifteen nationalities, approximately. The opus is constantly on increase for the reason of including new works of artists of the countries hosts. That made the Croatian project Challenge of Cravat become international in the full meaning of the word.

Museum of Cravat – the concept: it will be a multimedia-museum, therefore contemporary artists´ art works with cravat as its central theme will represent only a segment of its rich opus. This museum in the process of foundation will show development of cravat through history as characteristic communication media. The museum will answer the question why cravat is important in cultural context of civilization of the West, and the whole world today.
