In the Ethnographical Museum in Zagreb, an exhibition of photographs has been opened, entitled “The Knot in the Rock - the Cravats of Imota” organized by the Academia Cravatica.
The exhibition consists of about 220 old photographs taken in the period from the middle of the 19th to the middle of the 20th century. The photographs, as unique documents of time, show the people of the Imotska krajina over that one hundred year period, a variety of people and groups, from labourers to “gentlemen”, in a variety of life situations, but with one common characteristic - they are all wearing cravats as ornamentation. The editors of the exhibition are Sanda Lončar and Suzana Budimir, and the exhibition collection is also the work of Nikola Albaneže. It is open until the 30th September. The official presentation of the exhibition “A Knot in the Rock - the Cravats of Imota” is to be held on 26th September at 19.00 hours. On that occasion, the monograph of the same name will also be presented, whose editor in chief is Sanda Lončar. Alongside photographs from the exhibition, the monograph also contains scientific and literary articles on the kerchief, the cravat and the history of photography in the Imotska krajina. A further chapter of this rich monograph consists of forty statements by prominent public figures, who are originally from Imotska krajina. Their personal and family experience in relation to the cravat is interesting and an important contribution to our knowledge and understanding of the tradition and culture of dress in the Imotski area. As a special attraction, a tie entitled “Croata Imota” will be launched on that occasion, which has been created using motifs from the coat of arms of the City of Imotski and Glagolitics, with fragments of silk embroidery.
